This is another one of my tools from the 'Why didn't I get one of these earlier?' department: a terrific magnetic project holder for positioning the components prior to welding them. This handy little device can be used with MIG, TIG, Stick and other welding and cutting processes, or just to check out how the pieces fit together!
This will stick to steel and iron, like your welding table or that project you're working on. The magnet is rated at 50 lbs. of pull, and you can get 90, 45 and 135 degree angles between the pieces you're welding using the different sides. When not in use, I stick this thing to the cabinet on my welder itself so I don't misplace it. I've found I don't have to tack weld items as often, since I can use these to securely hold the parts and bypass the time-consuming tacking.
All in all, a really neat little device that saves time and makes the job easier. If you enjoy welding as I do, isn't it worth it to be able to address another obstacle to a good weld? If you're a pro, you can probably see right away how this can save you time.
The magnet is about 4 inches on each side and quite strong. This will stick well, even to rusted or odd-shaped parts, and both vertically and horizontally. In addition, the tool's weight tends to stabilize the assembly so you can weld it cleanly.
