Being offered here is a UNITROL Model 9581 Control, a unique device used to insure that proper welding pressure (forging force) is acheived before a resistance welder is allowed to "fire" (pass current).
The AccuStart is much more accurate than the old pneumatic pressure switches commonly used for many years on resistance welders.
This particular unit is "new old stock." It was built in November of 1999 and does not appear to have ever been installed! It comes complete with an instruction manual, installation drawings, and a set-up key. We can help you with installation by phone (free) or in person (at extra charge).
NOTE: Strong resistance welds require that Proper Tip Force be applied before the first half cycle of weld current flows. Also, Tip Force should not fluctuate or rise above the necessary force during the weld.
The Unitrol Model 9581 AccuStart uses the latest microprocomputer technology, including a differential pressure transducer. As it monitors the welder's air cylinder and subtracts back pressure from working pressure, the effects of improperly-set flow controls or internal air cylinder leakage will be detected.
The Unitrol Model 9581 is the extra-cost "high end" AccuStart model, with dual functions:
A. As the welding process starts, it closes an internal relay contact and lights a green indicator when the differential pressure equals or exceeds the user-set proper pressure value.
Welding problems resulting from tip force too low: Excessive heat, expulsion (sparks), ugly welds, tip life reduced
Welding problems resulting from tip force too high: Inadequate heat, brittle welds, limited weld nugget formation
