LM3909 dil chip - led flasher / oscillator + other uses

This is an awesome chip, working down to 1V!! It was a first taste of electronics for many. Hooking up a chip, capacitor and led to a battery, then seeing it flash.

Use a couple of these to deter burglars. A small solar panel with a blocking diode to keep a NiCd charged up. It will run for years!
The LM3909 is more than a simple LED flasher. Here are some other uses........
* Finding flashlights in the dark, or locating boat moorings, or as a path finder.
* Sales and advertising gimmicks.
* Emergency locators, for instance on fire extinguishers.
* Electronic applications - trigger and saw tooth generators.
* Low voltage operation, from just over 1V to 5V.
* As an oscillator, it can drive an 8 ohm speaker
