TIMKEN ALLOY STEELS From The Timken Roller Bearing Company
1940, 1st Printing, Self-Published, Softcover, 8½" x 11", Out of Print, 48 pages.
As you can see in the picture the covers have a little edgewear and a little discoloration. The pages are printed on a thicker cream colored glossy paper and they have a little discoloration but otherwise they are in very good condition except that the pages are stuck together at the centerfold near the binding. The binding is held together by 3 staples and it is tight as are the pages. Unfortunately my Mom didn't code this booklet so I don't know when she added it to her collection or where she bought it but I found it in her Cleveland, Ohio - Republic Steel files.
So what makes this booklet so special? This book is on the Timken Alloy Steels which was printed by the Timken Roller Bearing Company which is now called the Timken Company. The story of The Timken Company starts at a point where traditional success stories usually end, at the conclusion of a long and profitable career. This was when Henry Timken, a 19th century visionary and innovator in carriage manufacturing, patented the tapered roller bearing, in 1898. The following year, he formed a company to produce his innovation. Through a century, the company grew to make bearings of all types, specialty steel and an array of related products and services. That growth has included a number of acquisitions, the largest of which was The Torrington Company, in 2003. Today, The Timken Company is a global leader in friction management and power transmission. Sales have grown to $4.5 billion with 26,000 associates in 27 countries. Isn’t it great that one of these companies is still in business? So if you are a collector of anything from Timken or these type of books in general and this book is missing from your collection then you will think that it is pretty special. The contents are:
1. I am very sorry but I don't accept Personal Checks, so please don't think it is okay to send me one and assume I will take just yours. I ask that you respect my decision on this issue. . It is nothing personal, but once you've been burned, well, you know how it is – one bad apple can ruin it for everyone. So, no personal or business checks.
