The turn of the twentieth century marked the beginning of the Coleman Company. W.C. Coleman was a salesman working his way through law school when he was drawn to a lamp in an Alabama drugstore. From here he purchased an inventory of lamps to sell to merchants that wanted to stay open into the night. By 1986, the Coleman Company became interested in adding portable generators to their camping line. Coleman Powermate extended their power equipment in 1994 with the acquisition of Sanborn, an air compressor manufacturer. Finally by 2000, Coleman Powermate established an industrial division and launched a new line of PowerStation emergency backup power systems. Today, Coleman Powermate continues to expand their power equipment by introducing a new line of pressure washers.
